A Day in the Life of Senior Data Engineer Janki Ashar

Janki Ashar joined Centerfield in 2019 and is responsible for helping a number of teams save hours of effort. By automating robust, real-time data projects for many departments at Centerfield, Janki facilitates better analysis and reporting, and all-around faster decision-making for the business.

Q: Can you explain what your role entails?

A: My role entails a combination of leadership, architecting, developing, and automating our data projects. I interact with the business on a day-to-day basis to understand the project requirements and then convert those project requirements into technical requirements. Apart from this, I mentor other data engineers on the team to follow best standards and practices, with the objective of having simple and reusable data pipelines.

Q: What’s the most exciting thing you are working on right now?

A: Currently, I am working on creating a more unified data platform that streamlines the silo effort of using different products to upload conversion data. This one-stop solution will help our team save several hours of development effort, but also drive faster decision-making for the business.

Q: What are your favorite things about working at Centerfield?

A: My favorite thing about working at Centerfield is my team, my mentors, and the culture. During the pandemic, the team and the company have been extremely supportive to have a smooth WFH transition. Before COVID times, the events that Centerfield had were super fun. My favorite to date has been the painting and wine session.

Q: Any advice for someone wanting to do what you do?

A: Being in the data and analytics field, it’s very important to be a self-learner. Given the pace at which technologies change, educating yourself and keeping yourself up to date with all of it is crucial. In addition to being knowledgeable about the latest technology, I also recommend learning about the business and the impact of the work.

Q: What is your favorite WFH tip?

A: My favorite WFH tip would be self-care. It’s very important to have a proper work schedule and take a break, or else very soon it becomes exhausting and starts impacting the work. Personally, I like to end my day by spending valuable time with my husband. Cooking together with a glass of wine helps us unwind.
