A Day in the Life of Director of Content Gabriel Turner

Meet Director of Content for Security.org Gabriel Turner.

As a New York transplant with roots in Nashville, he recently joined Centerfield as part of an acquisition. Gabriel considers himself an amateur polyglot who is looking to expand his professional goals at Centerfield.

You can also see him in action on our YouTube channel!

Q: Tell us about yourself and what your role is like at Centerfield?
A: I focus on strengthening the relationship between our written and video content on Security.org for topics such as home security, identity theft, VPN, cyberbullying, and package theft. I work closely with our talented writers and editors on providing high quality and well-researched written content. I find it interesting to try to figure out what the audience wants when it comes to video content. YouTube is a fickle monster, and I love it. Failing at times is more useful than succeeding when it comes to video content. It is a constant challenge.

Q: What are you most excited to be working on right now?
A: I am hoping to do some really all-in videos soon for Security.org on the video front. Considering I am presently out of New York City and have access to an actual house with more than one bedroom and a washing machine and dryer, I’m going to wear so many different clothes in my next videos! On the written side, I hope to work on some long-form content that could bring a lot to the brand.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Centerfield?
A: One of my favorite things about Centerfield is the culture and the kindness from everyone. I ended up catching a somewhat severe case of COVID-19, and I felt supported throughout that period. I have also been relieved by the response of the company to the current protests in the country. It would be hard for me to be associated with an organization that did not adequately address the reality of systemic racism and oppression in the United States.

Q: Any advice for people wanting to do what you do?
A: If you are interested in becoming a Director of Content for anything or at least in the manner by which I try to perform my duties, I imagine you should work on public speaking skills and reading everything in your chosen niche. Of course, one should try to polish any interpersonal skills, particularly as you will be interviewed and have to speak extemporaneously on your topic of interest.

Q: What is your favorite WFH tip?
A: When it comes to working from home, the environment, and routine are key, along with significant breaks. Sometimes, I just use my computer’s battery even if I am working at my desk with my adapter. When the computer dies, I try to sit on my stoop in the sun. The sun gives you strength.
